Why are large trees so important?

The US Forestry Department and The Center for Urban Forest Research have done extensive studies and have determined that planting large trees in residential communities have, on average, 8 times more benefit than small trees. The benefits include, but aren't limited to, more energy savings, better health and fewer hospital visits, lower costs for stormwater controls, longer time between street resurfacing, and increased property values.
